タングステンカーバイド/タングステンスチール/Tungsten Carbide
タングステンカーバイドの一般名称はタングステンスチールですが簡単に呼ぶためしばしば「カーバイド」と言われることがあります（実際にはカーバイドとは炭素処理素材の総称）。
さらに炭素やタングステンのほかコバルトその他の合金等の素材も力学的機能増強のために添加されます。タングステンスチールの硬度は高く、高硬度のアームやコア、高硬度が要求されるスポーツ器具、ボールペン用ボール等に チョップやスライスツール用素材としてしばしば使用されています。
タングステンスチールは粉末を焼結して製造されます。タングステン粉、ブラックカーボンやコバルト金属粉を結合剤として使用し、他の合金粉と混合します。この混合物を高圧下でプレスし高温環境で焼結します。タングステンカーバイドの硬度は極めて高くモース硬度8.5～9、融点は2870ºCにも至ります。
